The service times for Advent are now available on the church website. Advent is a time of preparation, when we think of the first coming of Jesus and the work we must do before the second coming. We must learn to be like Mary, who trusted and submitted to God. Submission to authority sounds bad to our modern ears, so it is worth reminding you at this point that God is LOVE. Submitting to love can never be bad!

In this picture we see the Angel telling Mary that she has been chosen to be Jesus’ mother.

This pictures comes from the catacombs of Rome, the earliest known sources of Christian art. It shows a praying figure. This evening in the fellowship group we looked at the routine of prayer throughout the day in the early church and considered how it might be useful today.

We found this wonderful Orthodox icon of Abraham whilst looking for information about his role in Islam. The Muslims call him Ibrahim.

Thanks to @NeilMackin for suggesting that we feature Caleb on our Bible illustrations Tumblr. Caleb is a model of commitment and faithfulness to God. Yet there seem to be very few decent pictures of him on Google. Can you find a better illustration?

This picture shows Jesus Christ before Pilate. This encounter teaches us the nature of Christ’s kingship. When Christ comes again as King he will rule with love and humility, not with the sword. Today is the Feast of Christ the King.

Gerard van Honthorst shows the baby Jesus as the light of the world. It’s significant that the first visitors to his cradle were the shepherds. They were outcasts in society. Their role in the story shows us that God came in Jesus for all humankind.

We haven’t been making the best use of this Tumblr so will be relaunching it as a Bible illustration blog. Come back in the next few days for the first post.

Hi guys, We are back in action on Tumblr. This December we will be making full use of it as we explore the Bible in the run up to Christmas. 

The church’s social media will not be updated as often as usual in October because the webmistress (that’s me) is away in South Korea.
